Bavinck
Herman Bavinck (1854-1921) was a Reformed theologian from the Netherlands. I’m doing a PhD on his work at the University of Edinburgh (New College).
Bavinck’s interactions between theology and culture are fascinating and very edifying. I love how holistically he thought about the consequences of gospel redemption. Christ didn’t die solely to save abstract souls, but to redeem His people entirely; mind, body, soul, culture, art, science…
The essence of the Christian religion contains therein: that the creation of the Father, destroyed by sin, is again restored in the death of the Son of God and recreated by the grace of the Holy Spirit to a Kingdom of God.
Christianity does not introduce a single substantial foreign element into the creation. It restores what was corrupted by sin. It atones for the guilty and cures what is sick; the wounded it heals.
I hope to use the blog to post Bavinck related stuff from time to time.
Nice to find your site. Came here via the Daveys. Anyone who has a page given over to Bavinck deserves a link, so you are officially linked.
Every blessing,
Danny
PS - Feel free not to approve this once you have read it
Thanks Danny.
Once my PhD actually gets underway I hope to have a lot more Bavinck stuff to post.
Cheers for dropping by.
I was looking for lyric translations for a Capercaillie song and landed on your site. It’s always amazing…stunning…to see God working in far lands. I write from Nashville, TN. Peace.
Hello Heidi, thanks for your comment. Which Capercaillie song were you wanting to find? ‘Coisich a’ Ruin’ is one of my favourites.
